What You Should Know About a Puppy Before You Adopt Him
Adopting a puppy can change both your live and his, especially if the puppy comes from a shelter. When you go to a dog shelter and see the multitudes of dogs crowded in those small cages you want to take all of them home with you. Yet, before taking such a decision or making your mind about the puppy you want to adopt, there are some things you need to know about your future friend.
When you decided to have a puppy you wanted a companion which will stay by your side, with which you will play and run in the park; or wanted your children to play with him. Either way you want your dog to be good and behave well. This is why you have to know everything about his previous owner and about the education he received. Make sure that he was not brought to the shelter because he has bitten one of the members of the family or because he was barking or howling for no reason.
There are a lot of dogs which have been brought to the shelter because their owners could no longer take care of them for one reason or another. These are the best puppies for adoption, as they have been given proper education and can easily socialize.
Also, you should ask the caretakers from the shelter whether the dog you want for adoption has strange behavior or has caused them any trouble since he was brought there. They should know better than anyone which dogs are nice and which ones are more aggressive. Also, ask them if they think some of the dog’s habits can be modified with special training or if he is going to act like that all his life.
Do not forget to ask about the medical condition of the dog you want to adopt. You do not want to take home a sick dog, which will die after a couple of weeks. Also, in order to prevent the puppy from getting sick, you should take him to a vet to make him all the vaccinations he needs. A routine check will also be welcomed, so that you know for certain which is your four-legged friend’s real health condition.
