Come to think of it, training a God is not just converting your dog to simple following your instructions and commands. When you start training your dog for obedience and anti aggressive behavior you actually increase your interaction with your pet. In the course of training, your dog learns a few tricks, but at the same time you also get to learn a lot about your four legged companion.

There are numerous ways and means to train a dog, but one of the most effective dog training aids is an electronic clicker The essence of clicker training is that the dog is guided, not forced, into the desired behavior.

The clicker works on the principles of conditioning behavior and association of actions with sounds as experimented by Ivan Pavlov (a Russian Behavioral expert) long ago. He researched and established a relation between sounds and sight. He determined that even in the absence of the actual situation we can condition an intelligent animal such as a dog to react for a situation on hearing a sound even in the absence of the actual situation and associating sounds with events and required actions.

Pavlov had trained conditioned his dog for associating the sound of a bell with food and the dogs even started producing additional saliva when the bell rang and food was not provided as they had over a period of time associated the sound with food.

In the similar way you can train your dogs to act and behave in a required manner to the sound of a clicker. It takes a lot of patience, but is entirely non-confrontational. If you learn and understand clicker training you will not only be more effective in training dogs, but you will probably also improve your people handling skills.

Clicker in my opinion is one of the greatest dog training aids developed till now and suitable for dogs of all sizes and breeds.

Service dogs by definition are dogs that are trained to assist and empower people with disabilities. They are the professionals of the dog world and include leader dogs for the blind, therapy dogs, physical assistance dogs, hearing assistance and personal security dogs. In addition dogs are being used to assist people with other kinds of disabilities such as mental illness. Service dog training is specialized to the task they are asked to perform. Dogs have served mankind for thousands of years and have skills that cannot be duplicated even with the best high tech equipment. Each year well trained service dogs save hundreds of lives and help the disabled to live independent lives. Each day service dogs are being trained for new and unusual tasks which results in the continuing need for quality trained dogs.

Service dog training begins with basic obedience training. Along with this basic training the dog is socialized to people, other animals and environments that the dog is expect to work in. Dogs that lack the personality and temperament necessary are soon removed from the training program. Dogs that are too small or that lack agility and strength for the task they are being trained for are also removed. There has been a trend toward using what many call lap dogs as service dogs. While these dogs make great companion dogs for a shut in, however they are in general not capable of performing as full service dogs. Many people have tried to blur the line between a companion or pet dog and a service dog. Service dogs are used to provide more than company to an infirm individual.

Task orientated service dog training is designed to allow the dog to empower the person it is serving. Depending on the individual dog, training periods range from 3 to 6 months. Training curriculum normally includes retrieve tasks including retrieving dropped items, wallets and purses in other rooms, specific needed medications, cell or cordless phone when it rings, items of clothing and even groceries. Carrying tasks are also a critical skill that service dogs must be proficient in and include carrying personal gear, medications and belongings for someone using a walker or in a wheelchair. In addition the dogs frequently are used to carry groceries to and from vehicles. Additional skills that must be mastered included tug or pulling, muzzle based pushing, deposit of items to a specific location, Support or bracing tasks that help an individual get in and out of a wheel chair or bed, Pawing or opening tasks for cupboards and doors, personal security tasks including responding to smoke detectors and summoning help, In many cases service dogs are also trained to work in harness to provide mobility and support. As you can see that service dog training covers a wide range of subjects and skills.

There are many more tasks that a service dog can accomplish with proper training. Service dogs greatest benefit to handicapped individuals comes by providing the freedom and independence needed to live a normal life. It is almost impossible to put a monetary figure on these task related benefits. In addition there are the quality of life benefits that all dogs provide to the individual in need. The bottom line is that service dog training provides qualified dogs to handicapped and infirm people who need help to live a better life on their own.

Dogs make man happy. Man bred dogs lovingly and got loyalty and security in return. Dogs became his best friend and he happily trained the dogs to assist him in his daily activities. Many dogs, especially the smarter breeds like German Shepherds and Golden Retrievers, can be easily trained to do simple tasks that they do not normally perform such as retrieving a specific object or balancing on a beam in dog shows. Some dog breeds were trained to sniff out bombs and drugs to aid the law enforcers. Some dogs were trained as seeing-eye-dogs for blind people who need to go out. Dogs were also trained to help herd sheep and cattle in large farms. Still, some dogs were trained for human amusement in carnivals and dog shows.

To facilitate training, dog training treats are given as reward for correctly following the trainer’s instructions. These treats should be easy to nibble so that the dog can promptly resume the task and delicious enough that the dog would want to perform more in order to receive the treat. There are larger sized treats which are perfect as the best reward for perfect performance.

The dog training treats come in a variety of fun colors, shapes, and sizes. There are small bone treats for smaller breeds and large kibbles for larger breeds. The dog treats are made of real meat parts and real grains for fiber. Some manufacturers have product lines which include toy-looking training treats such as beanie balls, fun balls, and King Kong biscuit balls. To indulge the training animal’s craving for meat, large steaks and jerkies are made of meat and bone ingredients. There are also bone treats especially made for large dogs: at least 6 inches of colorful and delicious treat shaped into a large bone. For fun-loving dogs, small treats made from meat and vegetables which are shaped into little bears or stars or other fun shapes can be chosen.

Eating training treats can be rewarding and, at the same time, healthy for the dogs. A lot of manufacturers have incorporated vitamins, fibers and grains into the food to assist in digestion. There are treats made of whole wheat but incorporated with barbecue or meat products.

In choosing the dog training treats, the owner must see to it that the food is made from natural and real ingredients. It is also good to choose treats that have low calorie content to keep the dog healthy and fit. Also, a low calorie treat can be rewarded more often without fear that the dog will gain unwanted extra weight. Treats incorporated with liver, milk, and cranberries provide protein and add strength and endurance to the dog for it to sustain training. Berries can also add excitement to the flavor so that the dog would want more treats.

Treats are given as reward in training. But spoiling the dog by giving them treats without properly enforcing rules on them would result in them demanding food from the humans and not doing their tasks. So give dog training treats to pet in training only if it does the task properly. Only then can you achieve the best results that you want from training them.

Small dog training is like other regular dog training. It isn’t true that training a smaller dog is more challenging than training a large dog. Here are a few questions about training smaller type dogs and some expert answers.

Why is it so hard to potty train my small dog?

The reason why most people find training a little dog hard is because of their natural reactions to them. They tend to carry around a little dog and this is the root of why they are hard to potty train. When you carry your small sized dog to the place where they should take care of their toilet business and then carry them back to your place, you are essentially not teaching them anything. When you carry them around too much, smaller type dogs have no way to warn their owners that they have to relieve themselves outside. Training these little dogs starts when you recognize that they are just like any other large-sized or medium-sized dog. You have to keep them on a leash and let them go to their special place where they should relieve themselves. Do not carry them and you’ll be successful in small dog training.

What kind of method is the best in small dog training?

Any kind of obedience training is suitable for smaller type dog training, but clicker training works more effectively for smaller dogs. Clicker training is a more gentle approach to small dog training. In clicker training, you can make the dog respond positively to a series of clicks. In clicker training, you allow the dog to associate the clicks to treats. You click and give a treat and do this until the dog responds well to clicks. Then, you can break down the skills you want your dog to learn. When the dog does something towards good behavior, you click and give a treat. It’s as easy as that.

Training dogs of a smaller size can be a very rewarding experience if you approach it well. Smaller or little dogs are a joy to train and learning about the basics of small dog training can increase the pleasure of having a small dog within your own home.

Did your perfect pooch turn into a disastrous dog? Do you need some solid dog training advice? Even the worst behaved dogs can turn into man’s best friend with solid dog training advice.

Think of your little pal as a baby.

At first, your puppy won’t be potty trained. What you need to do is teach your baby dog where to go. This means you need to look for signs that baby dog needs to go. Signs include circling, intense sniffing, and pacing. When you see the signs, leash up and take your puppy out.

Patience is a virtue

Your new best friend will take a bit to learn what you want. Don’t give up on your puppy. Give the dog some time to adjust to the new environment and the new rules.

Buy the proper dog training products

Different dogs need different equipment. Larger dogs do better with slip collars. Smaller dogs may need a body harness. All dogs will need a leash and chew toys.

Set a puppy feeding schedule

When you feed your puppy at the same time everyday, you will notice a pattern. Your puppy will need to go the bathroom around the same time each day. Knowing your puppy’s schedule will help you anticipate the puppy’s needs.

Create a “safe space” for your baby dog

This could be a crate, a doggy bed, or a corner in the room. Whatever you decide, your puppy will need a place to go and feel safe.

Dog training takes time and effort but with it comes great rewards. Follow this dog training advice and you will have a well-behaved puppy in no time. A well-behaved puppy will be a friend for a lifetime.

Training collars are one of the most recommended products for dogs. Even if you’re not going to train your pet for certain purposes, it is still essential to bey training for your dogs because this is something that will get them domesticated and cultured. In addition to that, it is even more essential to purchase a training if you want your dog to learn other purposeful tricks and basic obedience. The main objective of training keep your dogs well-behaved. Training is not meant to hurt your pets in anyway. Rest assured that when you use these pet, it would not hurt them in any way unless it is misused. Whether you have a dog that you want to train for a sport or just a normal dog, training collars are essential.

First off, when thinking about purchasing collars, you should think about the choices that you have. The three main collars that you can choose from are pinch collars, choke collars, and electric or shock collars. Choke collars are perhaps the most popular kind of collar. With choke collars, you can’t go wrong because its effectiveness and usefulness is unparalleled for its price. Choke collars function by tightening up when the dog pulls against the leash. Pinch collars, on the other hand, are similar to choke collars except for the fact that they add more resistance to the dog whenever the dog pulls against the leash. Essentially, instead of choking the dog, the color tightens up to pinch the dog until it slacks off to loosen the collar. Electric or shock collars are more advanced training collars. These kinds of collars are used for dogs that are really fierce and need special attention because they can be very unruly. If a dog tries to defy you or acts disruptively, a shock will be presented on the dog. Likewise, you can also carry a remote trigger so that you can let your dog roam free.

Keep in mind that these training collars are solely for dogs and are not meant to do any harm. For more restless and larger dogs, you might need training collars that are more intense. Overall though, you won’t go wrong with any kind of training collar because these products are specifically created to keep your dogs behaved.

Among the many dog dominance behaviors, those surrounded by perhaps more myths than any others are dog mounting problems and dog humping women. No, contrary to popular opinion, these obnoxious dog instinctive behaviors have absolutely nothing to do with sex. How embarrassing, though, for those who do not know this!

“Don’t worry,” I said to a client who was bright red as he observed his male pup trying to mount mine. Visibly, the client wanted to dig a hole and hide. He was mortified! His dog aggressively continued in his attempts at dog mounting and dog humping on mine, especially going for the head. (My good-natured, large dog easily shook him off.)

“I didn’t know my dog was queer,” he said very sheepishly and apologetically. I could not contain my laughter as I reassured the man that it was not so. How common is that misconception? In the dog world, there is no such thing as a “gay dog!”

One dog mounting over another one’s head, or even unsheathing his penis, is fairly common. The mounting dog is seriously trying to seize control over all others. The unsheathing is to release his scent on the other dog, to proclaim to all the others that he won the battle over this one.

Think about this fact: If a male dog mounts a female for mating purposes, his equipment does not miss its target. He does not fail to put it in the right place. If his intentions toward another male dog were sexual, it would be done. Note that his aim, when riding up from behind the other dog, is OVER the tail and back, not under the tail. That is NOT sexual! Riding up on another dog’s back raises the first dog above him. It is a reminder that, “Hey, you’re not the boss here!”

When the dog mounts another one’s head, he is going to one of the most extreme displays of dominance in the dog world. The head is the highest part of the dog. Bringing the head down brings the dog down from his highest point. It is all about who is higher than whom.

When a dog unsheathes his penis and releases liquid, that forces the dog who is leaked on to wear the scent of the dominant one. It is a very potent scent and stays for some time, making the low rank obvious for many miles — and even to other packs within scent range.

Dogs constantly try to dominate each other. That is dog instinctive behavior, among the rituals they go through every time they meet each other. The dogs will first size each other up through eye contact. If one surrenders by lying down, then leadership is settled. If not, the wrestle for dominance truly begins.

As they wrestle for the dominant dog position, the dogs continue to mount each other until one rolls over submissively and turns his eyes away. Until the eyes have completely turned away, surrender has not happened, and the dog who is losing may try a sneak attack against the other. Look out!

We homo sapiens usually prefer the challenge of a game such as “rock-paper-scissors,” a mind game like chess or Scrabble, or a socially acceptable ball game. It is less embarrassing to the public eye.

You have sometimes seen dog fights break out as the dogs jockey for position, through wrestling or stare-down dares. Normally, however, one dog raises his head higher than the other, and the one with the lower head surrenders.

Clearly, this is an instinctive dog behavior, a ritual dogs often go through. I recommend to all who are interested to question experts and to study this dog dominance behavior for themselves. Dog humping women and dog mounting problems have nothing to do with sex, and they CAN be solved. Remember, there is no such thing as a “GAY DOG!”

Let’s be clear from the start. A potty is not used when potty training puppies. What we are talking about is house training your puppy so that it eliminates outdoors or in a designated indoor area rather than anywhere in the home.

Don’t look on potty training puppies as the unpleasant or messy side of owning a puppy. Rather see it as the first stage of a bonding process. One that will result in a happy and healthy relationship. That is the real reward of house training a dog.

Start potty training as soon as you get your puppy home. But remember they don’t yet have full control of their bladder and bowel functions.

Feeding should take place at the same times every day. Do not feed with four hours of bedtime and withdraw the water bowl two hours before bedtime. A routine is essential. That means you too have to stick to a routine by getting up and going to bed at the same time every day.

Take the puppy outside into the yard or for a walk first thing in the morning, 10 to 15 minutes after every meal or drink and last thing at night. Do not play with them until they have eliminated.

If after 10 minutes there is no action take the puppy back to its crate. Wait 10 to 15 minutes then take them out again.

Be sure to praise the puppy and reward them with a little playtime every time it does “the business”.

Restrict your puppy to rooms with washable floors until he is house trained.

Simply taking your dog out in the backyard a few times every day is not the way to potty train a puppy. After all, how do they know what they are being taken outside for?

And you thought litter boxes were only for cats. As it turns out, litter box can also be for dogs. That is for small dogs. Usually, it is the small dogs that stay inside an owner’s home.

It makes sense to train your dog how to poop inside – preferably in a litter box. Here are a few tips to litter train a dog.

1. Get a litter box. We suggest you get the largest cat litter you can find. Remove the top so it would be customized for the dog to use. It is also easier to clean in that way. Smooth out the edges by using sand paper, preferably a rough one. Know that dogs do their business more than cats. They also do not cover up their litter with soil. Dog poop is there for everybody to see.

2. If ever you catch your dog doing his business on another area and not on the litter box you already prepared for him, say “No!” Of course, your dog must have an idea of the verbal cues and keywords. If he understands what “no” is, he’d gather that you do not appreciate him pooping or peeing there. To correct it, you can lead him to the litter box. By constantly repeating this, your dog will understand your command.

3. Most importantly, you must help your dog to get used to his litter box. Encourage him to do his business there by praising him with the verbal cues “Good boy.” You can also instill in him the command “use the box.” In that way, it would be easier for you to get your point across.

4. The key is being consistent. The litter box should always be in that exact same spot. You talk to your dogs with a mellow and assured voice. In that way, they wouldn’t be afraid of you. In fact, they would take you seriously and would also like to please you by following your commands.

After weeks of training, eight to ten at most, your dog would have already gotten used to his litter box. You can let him roam freely, without your watchful eye.

Sometimes – especially if not trained right as a puppy – older dogs will have problems with house training and they may need to be taught or re-taught not to pee or poop inside. You can teach an old dog new tricks and to help you, here are the tips for potty training older dogs.

The Process Of Training

1. Instead of teaching your dog not to urinate inside, teach them to urinate outside. Many experts agree that it is far easier to teach a dog – especially an older one – to do something rather than teach them to not do something.

2. Provide an area of your lawn for the dog to go outside. Make sure you are very consistent about where they pee or poop because that will make it easier for the dog to learn.

3. Always use the same words for going outside because an older dog can get confused by various commands. Say “Need to Pee?” and keep using that phrase so the dog learns what it means.

4. If the dog does have an accident inside, make sure you remove all traces of it with vinegar and baking soda. Dogs can smell extremely well and if an older dog smells urine inside, they may think they are supposed to use that spot. This is very important for potty training older dogs.

5. Dogs will not pee or poop where they sleep so keep their sleeping area tight so there is no room for accidents around their bed.

6. Instead of feeding your dog before they go to sleep, lessen the amount you feed them to eliminate accidents at night.

7. Always ensure that it is easy for your dog to go outside by providing them with a doggie door if you have a fenced yard. Once they are properly trained, you won’t have to do anything as the dog goes outside. This makes potty training older dogs very easy.
